Fourth Grade
4th grade is a challenging and rewarding year at the James Otis School. Students participate in a variety of learning opportunities in all academic areas. Students are engaged in many hands on activities, which promote growth and achievement. Students work collaboratively on projects and daily assignments that are aligned with the Common Core State Standards. Students are supported and encouraged to excel in the classroom. Students work very hard to prepare for the MCAS 2.0 in English Language Arts and Mathematics. Fourth grade is an important year in a child’s education.  We have high expectations for our students. We hope to build a strong partnership with our students and their families. Together, let’s build and foster a 4th grade community of learners.

Hello!  My name is Teresa DiCostanzo, and this year I am starting my 31st teaching year at the James Otis School.  At the Otis, I have had the pleasure of teaching in the Transitional Bilingual Program, the SEI Program, and the Regular Education Program.  I have taught grades 1-4.  My favorite subjects to teach are math, social studies, and foreign languages. I have a Master's Degree in Education. Fourth Grade is a challenging and exciting year.  As we embark upon our 4th grade journey, I look forward to meeting and collaborating with parents to make their child's academic and social year a success.  Happy Journey!

Hi! My name is Michaela Hyland. For three years, I have been a substitute teacher at the Otis. My favorite part of being a substitute teacher was being able to go into the different classrooms and meet so many of the wonderful students at the Otis. This is my first year as a fourth grade teacher. When I am not in school, I enjoy spending time with my family or traveling.

Hello! My name is Jane Tuite and this will be my first year teaching at the James Otis School. Although this is my first year at the Otis, I have taught in East Boston since 2013 and I have taught fourth grade for the last five years. The fourth grade year is such an exciting year for students. This year I am looking forward to reading engaging texts with the students and watching the students grow as both readers and writers! I love the East Boston community and I am so excited to start this new experience with the dedicated staff, students, and families at the Otis!
