Schoolwide Recognition & Awards 2021 Thomas W. Payzant School on the Move Prize Winner Presented by EdVestors, the James Otis School was awarded the prestigious School on the Move Prize, including a $100,000 award recognizing schools that demonstrate significant progress in student achievement, strong leadership, effective teaching practices, family engagement, and a commitment to continuous improvement. Recognized as One of Boston’s Top “Hidden Gem” Elementary Schools (2021) James Otis was recognized as one of Boston’s top hidden gem elementary schools, highlighting the school’s strong academic programs, supportive learning environment, and commitment to students and families. Massachusetts DESE Commendation School (2012) The James Otis School was recognized by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for academic achievement and improvement. Massachusetts Level 1 School Recognition James Otis has been recognized as a Level 1 school within the Massachusetts accountability system, reflecting strong performance and progress toward educational goals. Excellence in Family & Community Engagement Boston’s First Certified Family Friendly School (2014) The James Otis School became the first officially certified Family Friendly School in Boston Public Schools. Highest Parent University Attendance Rate in Boston Public Schools James Otis was recognized for achieving the highest participation rate in Boston Public Schools Parent University programming, demonstrating the school community’s commitment to family learning and engagement. Highest Boston Public Schools Climate Survey Participation Rate The James Otis community was recognized for having the highest percentage of returned BPS Climate Surveys, reflecting strong family and community involvement. Grants & Educational Program Recognition EdVestors Arts Expansion Grant (2013) James Otis received an EdVestors Arts Expansion Grant to expand arts learning opportunities and enrich student experiences through the arts. Harvard University 3-3rd Grant (2011–2012) The school received support through the Harvard University 3-3rd Grant initiative, strengthening educational opportunities for students.
