Fourth Grade
4th grade is a challenging and rewarding year at the James Otis School. Students participate in a variety of learning opportunities in all academic areas. Students are engaged in many hands on activities, which promote growth and achievement. Students work collaboratively on projects and daily assignments that are aligned with the Common Core State Standards. Students are supported and encouraged to excel in the classroom. Students work very hard to prepare for the MCAS 2.0 in English Language Arts and Mathematics. Fourth grade is an important year in a child’s education.  We have high expectations for our students. We hope to build a strong partnership with our students and their families. Together, let’s build and foster a 4th grade community of learners.

My name is Andrew Conlin, and I’m proud to be teaching Grade 4 at the Otis School. I’ve had the pleasure of working in the wonderful East Boston community for the past 15 years, and I’m thrilled to continue this journey with such amazing students and families.  This year, I’m especially excited to be teaching Math and Science—two subjects that encourage curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving. I’m looking forward to another fantastic year of teaching, learning, and growing together. When I’m not in the classroom, I love spending time with my family in Cape Cod. I’m also a big fan of Boston sports, enjoy playing hockey, and have fun learning new songs on the guitar. Looking forward to a great school year ahead!

I am so excited to be teaching 4th grade SEI at the at the James Otis! My name is Deana Fetherston and this will be my 11th year at the Otis! I grew up right here in East Boston, so the Otis and my students hold a special place in my heart. Fourth grade is an exciting year for students and we will have lots of fun learning and exploring. I look forward to helping my students develop new skills and create educational opportunities to help them grow! I received my masters degree in elementary education from Merrimack College. When I am not in the classroom I love to spend time with my family and friends especially my two girls Nina and Romie!

My name is Jane Tuite and this is my sixth year teaching at the James Otis School.  I’m excited to continue working with the wonderful East Boston community where I’ve taught since 2013. I’m proud to teach fourth grade reading, writing, and social studies at the Otis, and I look forward to sharing new engaging texts with students.   When I'm not in the classroom, I love spending time with my family, reading, and watching Boston sports! Fourth grade is such an exciting year of discovery and independence, and I look forward to another great year of learning together with our amazing students!
